Artists Back in the 15th Century Created Their Own Oil Paints to Make Stunning Artwork

Oil painting has an exceptional ability to generate tonal or colour fusion. This is what sets it apart from other painting medium. Achieving crisp effects is easier with oil painting than other fluids, which can be used to create artwork. Its range includes opaque to transparent paintings. It is also unrivalled in terms of textural diversity.

Generally oils used in oil paintings are made from pigments which are suspended in different types of drying oils or painting grade solvents to form a stiff paste. This paste is then passed through a steel roller mill to grind it under severe friction. A liquid painting media like turpentine is then blended with it as per the requirements of the artist regarding the fluidity of the color.

Lana Zueva is an experienced artist who has made hundreds of oil paintings is a popular Gold coast oil painting artist with many best seller paintings under her name. She is quite famous for still art and portrait paintings and has found her style in color transformations, which are easily visible and felt in her artwork.

Use of oil paint before 19th century

The advent of tubes for carrying oil paints is much recent. Artists used to make their own paints, fresh every day. Most modern painters have undergone special training in art school to reach a level of perfection in their art work and also to learn the art of mixing and preparing colors.

However, before the advent of masters in arts and other training programs, artists in older times used to work as apprentice for dozens of years under a master artist to attain mastery in their art. During their role as a pupil, they used to learn the making of oil paints as well including the art of color grinding.

Dated back to 11th century, oils were initially added to the paint mixture. The actual use of oil paintings came much later in the 15th century. After 1400, development in the refinement of linseed oil and use of new colour pigments along with volatile solvents gave for an alternative way to bring out life in the artworks created by famous painters.
